16 Father’s Day Gift Ideas

DROPOUT Creative Assets

Six days from now many fathers around the globe will be greeted and appreciated by their family, relatives, friends and colleagues. Why? This is the most special day that is dedicated for fathers, father figures, male parenting and their father duties that impacted the lives of their children– Father’s Day.

Believe it or not, Father’s Day was originated from the idea of a woman. What? It was Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, WA idea after she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. That time, Mother’s Day was widely known and celebrated. It was Dodd who came up with the idea that fathers also deserves to be recognize. Part of the idea is because she and her siblings were raised by their dad as their mother already died. She picked the birth month of her dad (which is June) and in 1910, the first celebration of Father’s Day was established in Spokane. It was only after 56 years when  President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation giving recognition to the fathers, designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day. Six years later in 1972, when President Richard Nixon made it official as a permanent national holiday.

Just like the mothers, the fathers deserves the same recognition for their hard work. They play one of the most important part of the family, being the pillar of the smallest unit of the society. Fathers play a crucial role especially in the development of the son and the emotional security of the daughter. They don’t just aid the family’s finances, but they are the decision-maker of the entire household.

Due to the on-going trend in our society today, there has been single dads and father figures that are raising their family alone. Socio-economic, financial stability and emotional capacity are some of the factors that continues this social trend, becoming a norm in today’s standard of living. Some people are also drawn to themselves, thus, selfishness, self-love and narcissism has grown exponentially over the course of years. Take note that it is not wrong to love ourselves. What’s wrong is trying to please ourselves above pleasing and caring for the needs of our family. Of course, some people might disagree because of determining personal factors. There are still traditional family values that are still being practice until today.

Going back to our topic, giving gift to our fathers is a sign of respect and giving reward to their daddy duties because we love them. How can we show them? By giving material gifts other than greeting them and saying I love you. Below are some of the great gift ideas we can give our fathers this Father’s Day.

T-Shirt/Jersey/Suit. This has been the typical gift of anyone. It’s like an automatic response when we can’t think of a gift idea, or we need an on-the-spot gift to our fathers, this comes first in mind. However cliche it may seem, but this has always been effective and classic. Especially knowing that most of the fathers aren’t buying T-shirts for themselves. Hahaha. Some daddies are a fan of a certain sports team, so giving them a fan or collectible edition jerseys are great. While office daddies can look dashing and appealing in a great, if not expensive suit.

Lovely Wholesale

Belt. An accessory every man must have. This is an important accessory of a busy office daddy. A great, if not expensive belt wrapped around any man’s waist is any man’s social pride.

Watch. An accessory co-equal to the belt. Unlike belts, watches are more prominent as it contributes to overall outer appearance. It is more eye-catching because belts are sometimes hidden or partially hidden. Busy daddies are always looking at the time, so checking their wrist is pretty normal. Unknown to women, buying men an expensive watch has the same effect like when women receives a jewelry from men. A great if not expensive timepiece wrapped around their hand is lit.🔥

Shoes. A nice pair of new shoes will always be appreciated by the busy daddies, whether it is a new pair of office shoes or a new pair of sneakers. At least make it blend with his everyday casual outfits or regular office attires. A nice pair of Nike or rubber shoes for a sporty dad will give more inspiration to his physical fitness routines. Shoes are one of any dads or men in general’s favorite material things.

Underwear. As naugthty as it may seem, but for daddies or men in general, buying them a nice piece of underwear is not an issue. Unlike women who tends to buy their own lingeries, men in general aren’t picky in the brand, and the fabric of the underwear. As long as it is not a bikini or string-type and flashy brief, it’s okay. Nowadays, boxer briefs and shorts are mostly prefered by many men.

Fountain Pen/Branded Pen. This is not a common gift ideas for daddies. Actually, this is only highly recommended when our daddies are working in an office, and when he is part of a writing industry.

My Wedding Favors has everything you need to add some charisma to your special day. These stylish favors bring sophistication and flair to any wedding.

My Wedding Favors has a large selection of beach wedding favors and nautical wedding favors. Whether you are on a sunny, sandy beach or dockside with a nautical flair, make their memories of your special day last forever.

Mug. Most of the dads are drinking hot beverages every morning. It could be coffee, tea, hot choco or any hot concoctions they drink as part of their maintenance drinks. And giving them something usable like a mug will invigorate their morning drinks and mood.

Necktie. Neckties contributes to a man’s overall appearance in the office. A great tie combined with a great suit is so appealing. Nowadays, fashion-conscious office dads taking great neckties seriously as a great part of office OOTDs.

Liquor/Wine. This may be offensive or debatable for some, especially among religious conservatives. Giving daddies the liquor brands they like this Father’s Day is much appreciated. At the same time, this will be a great father-son bonding time if both are into drinking. A great brand of beer, whiskey or wine and a delicious appetizer already completed the daddy’s day.

Tobacco/Vape. Give this to the fathers who you knew are into smoking. An expensive brand of tobacco or cigars, especially a collectible edition will greatly satisfy their smoking craving. In the same manner as how daddy drinkers are satisfied by their drinking habit.

Book. Self-help books, financial freedom books, DIY books, biographical books and Novels. Give these to daddies who are into reading or are writers.

You can avail these books and give them to the daddies this Father’s Day. Click the photo for orders.

Alibris: Books, Music, & Movies

Greeting Card/Letter. The most traditional among these list of gifts. The downside of this is that, not all men in general wanted to received a card or a letter. Especially now that text messaging and social media message apps are a norm.

Gadgets. Millennial daddies use gadgets often. It is part of their lives if not of work. From a nice flat screen tv, to an amplified bluetooth headset or sound system. To a high-spec Macbook and laptop, to an expensive mobile phone. To a techie stuff in the market and to Alexa home system, name it, all daddies want these new stuff.

Personalized Items. Unlike collectibles, most of these items are part of the daddies’ everyday use. Giving a little touch of creativity will show daddies that they are appreciated by their daddy efforts.

Date/Outing. Above all material things, it will always be memories that are unforgotten. Treat the fathers in an expensive restaurant. There are restaurants that offers discounts during Father’s Day. Or plan a one day vacation or outing with the daddies, so they will unwind and be refresh from the stressful working days of the entire year. Another is treat them a ticket to their favorite movie or concert or buy a ticket to their favorite match or sports team, They will surely love it.

To Blog or Not to Blog This 2021

A definitive guide on how I started blogging, then migrated from Blogger to WordPress platform.

I have been blogging since 2016. Back then, I wasn’t as active compared right now. Before anything else, you need to ask yourself, why do you want to blog? Should you blog or not blog especially this 2020? Blogging is a tiring task that needs your full attention and some time, if not full time. It’s a continuous work that you need to deal with every day. It will divide your time or eat up all of your time even just by making a single article alone. What more if you have a deadline?

You see, when I started, I didn’t know all of these. I remember, I started my content writing in a small publishing house.  My first article is about Writer’s Block and the rest is history. I only got the full grasp of what it meant by blogging only when I started. From being an article writer, I was given the opportunity to handle a website and a group dedicated to indie writers. I didn’t know it was this time consuming especially when you have a regular day job plus writing your book.

For a little background, aside from being an editor and website manager, I am also joining writing contests and submitting short stories to some writing entities. In addition, I am writing a book in the sideline so I need a channel to show my works to the world. Aside from a writing app, I created a Facebook page. The Facebook page is my dedicated author page. I did it for the sole purpose of channeling all of Chesz Dylan’s works which includes poems and other related stuff.

How many articles have I published back then? It’s not as many as you might think. When I became an editor and a head content writer, my spare time was preoccupied with articles I have to proofread and edit every day. It has gotten to a point where I can’t write my own article anymore. I’m not saying this to boast how hard-working ass I was. It’s what I love to do and I gained experience from it though it was all a volunteer work. Until I seldom to not update my personal blog in Blogspot because of the tasks I have to accomplish.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

Fast forward, some things happened. I resigned from all that admin work. After that, I managed to self-published my very own book. It was a Young Adult fiction. I started to become active again, first on my author’s Facebook page. Then I managed my free blogger account and made a copy of my articles on my previous website and published it on my author website. The copyright was all mine so there weren’t any issues in migrating my works.

During this time, I joined in some different blogging and writing groups. I need their experience and knowledge for this demanding industry and learn. To utilize that knowledge and use them in my personal advantage. I became accustomed to the blogger community, until such time I realized that I need to monetize from my blogs and site.

Blogspot was a great site for amateur bloggers. It’s very intuitive and the site navigation, writing, posting, and sharing are easy. But just like any amateur bloggers that need to improve their craft and monetize from their works, their free site was limited for me or for bloggers to blog or not to blog in general especially this 2020. This realization didn’t just come from my personal opinion, but rather, reading from experienced bloggers in social media and the internet.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

Since I want to level up my blogging career, I started googling for WordPress and the hosting sites that best cater to my needs as a writer. I googled and compared different reviews so I can get and know all the best offers of these hosting sites. I narrowed it down and personally deliberated it into five hosting sites.

BlueHost: To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

BlueHost is indeed the #1 in almost all reviews I searched even in 2020. Based on their product and service review, they specialize in a ton of storage compared to what’s in the market. It was enticing but just like any hosting site, they have their pros and cons.

PRICE – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ $2.95/month (Cheap)
STORAGE – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ADDITIONAL SERVICES – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Affordable)
SEO – ⭐⭐ ⭐
REVIEW – They have a bad to mediocre customer support

  • Free domain name for 1 year
  • 30-day Money back guarantee
  • SSL Included
  • 1-click WordPress install
  • Free 30-day Email
  • Bluehost app marketplace
  • 24/7 support

Visit them at: Bluehost

Siteground; To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

This is by far my personal choice, but I didn’t choose this hosting site because of one important factor that I need to address. I will tell the reason in my conclusion later.

PRICE – ⭐⭐⭐ $3.95/month (Mediocre)
SEO – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
REVIEW – They have a great customer support

  • 4 Data Centers
  • SSL Included
  • *Free Migration
  • Pre-Wordpress Setup

Hostigator: To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

This hosting site is just as good as BlueHost and Siteground when it comes to the numbers of hosted sites. They have cheap intro plans, but they lack some features in their cheap plan that can be found in other competitions.

PRICE – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ $2.78/month (Cheap)
SEO – ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐
REVIEW – They have a good customer support

  • Unlimited Email Accounts
  • SSL Included
  • Free Site Migration
  • cPanel
  • Using HDD Storage
  • 24/7 Support via Live Chat, Phone, Email
  • 45-day Money back guarantee

DreamHost: To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

This is what I purchased. I was actually torn between Siteground and Dreamhost. Based on reviews, they have almost the same features as Siteground, both price,  storage, and uptime and load time.

PRICE – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ $2.59/month (Cheap)
ADDITIONAL SERVICES – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Affordable)
SEO – ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐
REVIEW – They have great customer support

  • 97-day Money back guarantee
  • Cheap domain name pricing

WordPress: To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

This is a WordPress plan when you registered at the version. What’s great at this plan is the payment is automatically converted to the country you are in, so it’s not a hassle to convert the US dollar into your currency. And since it is already converted, it is practically cheap. It’s already running under WordPress so you already have an advantage.

PRICE – ⭐⭐ $5/month (Expensive)
ADDITIONAL SERVICES – ⭐⭐⭐ (Reasonable)
SEO – ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐
REVIEW – They have a good customer support

  • 24/7 support
  • Must register for an account at
  • Social sharing buttons

WordPress Pricing

Every hosting site has its great, good, mediocre, and bad features. Those are the top 5 hosting sites you can choose whether to blog or not to blog this 2020. The reasons I chose Dreamhost over other competitions are among as follows:

✔️ Cheap
✔️Domain name fee is cheap
✔️ Free site migration (as I came from Blogger to WordPress)
✔️Pre-WordPress installation
✔️Uptime and Load time are great
✔️SEO is great
✔️Monthly Billing- the important factor I considered that toppled all the other hosting sites in my personal opinion.

*Storage and email is the least I considered because personally, it’s not that important for now. I could change my plan in the future, just in case.

*I was broke when I purchased the plan. So minus having the discount for the 2 or 3-year plan, if you can avail it, I am not discouraging you to splurge your money in it. Again, the monthly payment was the important reason why I availed for the Dreamhost since they are the only hosting site that has a monthly payment term.

After choosing the hosting site. I received my pre-WordPress account in my email. Btw, I also considered DreamHost because of its Pre-WordPress setup. I know a lot of technical sides but I am not an expert. With this 2020 feature, I don’t need to install WordPress on the laptop, where lies one of the problems because most of the time I am using my mobile. I won’t divulge on this matter any further as I only want to emphasize setting up a blog and not the technical terms. So I will just make it easy for non-technical bloggers out there. Please also consider that the domain name you will choose is also important as it will represent your brand. The greater the name, the greater the impact it will have on the readers or consumers.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

After signing up for Dreamhost, I was directed to their panel. It isn’t as intuitive due to its lack of cPanel but personally, I can manage with it.

Dreamhost Panel

After choosing the domain name and a little configuration in Dreamhost, I was directed to my pre-made WordPress account. The customization in the WordPress dashboard is intuitive and easy. Then I installed plugins for migration of my blogger account into WordPress.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

Choose a theme from the wide range of themes available. and are two different sites even though they share the same platform which is WordPress. In it is a self-hosting site customization compared to the former. Meaning you can utilize its full customization and potential depending on your purpose. In addition, it has more themes to choose from and customization is very specific to the site owner, compared to the limitation of utilization and customization found in although it is free. They also have the plan to choose from in case you want to expound your blogging territory but it comes with a cost, of course. - shop now!

House automation has been in-demand. Like Alexa who offers virtual assistance, Smarthome will take care of your wiring, CCTV, doorbells, secured wiring system and mechanized and technologically assembled products that will enhance security system,

Moreover, plugins are essentials and it has a direct effect on the outcome of the website you have in mind. This is one of the important aspects I try not to overlook. You see, I am meticulous in terms of details, so very little change is very important to me.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

After finishing up all the themes, plugins, widgets and the customization is according to your liking, you can now publish it and wallah! Your website is live.

To blog or not to blog - What is the latest this 2020?

Going back to what I stated, free blog sites are great for amateur bloggers. There are free blog sites this 2020 being offered by Blogger (Blogspot),, Wix, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost, Medium, etc. to name a few. The primary difference of free blog sites from hosting sites is your full control of the website. While free blog sites can do some of the main tasks that hosting sites could do, however, it is still limited to a point where monetizing your free site is difficult to impossible. Whereas, hosting sites will let you manage your sites up to the smallest details you want to do within your site. That what makes it appealing to the bloggers especially the professionals and creative thinkers.

I didn’t make this up for any sponsorship or product endorsement of any hosting sites. It was solely upon my choice as I want to share what I went through when starting a blog. Above all, for amateurs like me in such things, I hope you gained knowledge from my little know-how, steps, and tips when to blog or not to blog in 2020 and beyond

The Fate of Huawei and Hongmeng OS

Google might have triggered an impending new monster that will eat them whole, depending on the outcome. This is a make or break move from Huawei. It is inevitable due to the ban that the US government imposed to Google. In a different perspective, Google had announced its universal OS in the works, the OS Fuchsia since 2016. Hongmeng OS or Project Z (according to some sources) of Huawei was just confirmed recently, although it is said that it is in the works since 2012. A Huawei executive has foreseen this scenario following the aggressive move of the US government about the never ending spying debacle.

In some reports, it was allegedly already being tested in some phones, hiding behind the curtain. Both OS Fuchsia and Hongmeng OS are running under universal operating system. It is actually a great innovation in mobile industry as there hasn’t any big companies to explore this region. There are related news that Microsoft has been exploring this in their Windows OS and Samsung has taken a pinch of this through their Continuum feature. - shop now!

While this is expected to happen, the risk is high and Huawei is at stake here. Huawei has its own track record of innovation these past few years and they wouldn’t dethrone Apple in the #2 position if they aren’t doing a great job. Whether we like it or not, this has a benefit to us consumers and in the mobile technology. This would lessen the Mobile OS duopoly, and a new OS will be born from China that will compete directly against Google.

Huawei Central

In the meantime, Huawei was given 3 months after the US government temporarily lifted the ban after news broke in the internet yesterday. Still, Huawei confirmed that it will still push updates to the old models and incoming new models and that the consumers wouldn’t be affected much. After which, Huawei will either comply or the US government will impose the ban in a full swing. As the recent leading OEM innovator, let’s see how Huawei will handle this. Hongmeng OS has its potential but still, it is a make or break for the company and for Google.

Election period had ended. Local officials were proclaimed while the national positions are under tallying. Some voters were discouraged of the outcome, crying out rigging of votes; throwing out low blows against their opponents even before the campaigning period started. To the extent of filing a lawsuit because of the personal damages these candidates incurred to one another. While for some, they are celebrating for the victory of their candidates. This is the typical scene you will see every election in the Philippines. - shop now!

Typical drama, typical narratives, typical promises and agendas that might become a wishful thinking after they took the government office. Compared to the previous election albeit the shove-at-your-face irregularities, this year’s election gained enormous success and confidence from the people. This is the undeniable outcome of support from the pro-administration to the government. Of course, the opposition or the losing side would react to this statement. Take in mind that we have different opinions. Whether we like it or not, whatever the outcome the Comelec will declare, that is final. But just a little throwback, especially if you are aware of the dirty politics in some parts of the country, thanked God because it wasn’t bloody nor disaster this year.

Fast forward, the school grounds was left with a pile of garbages from the voters. I believe, this is not just a clean-up work that should be done by the local government units but a volunteer task from the winning candidates, if not all people.

Credit: ABS-CBN News

Fast forward now that they were elected, these questions should be taken in mind: How should I start, and what should I do to fulfill my promises and agendas to these constituents? What are the real problems that should be addressed immediately? What are the initiatives that should be implemented in order to attain progress? How can I be more of a help, a role model, and a great leader to these people? What ordinances and laws should be prioritize? What project layouts and infrastructures are needed to gain economic wealth, invite investors and  attract tourists?

Working as a government official comes with a great responsibility, accountability, and sincerity. It is indeed a hard work, if your interest is for the welfare of your constituents. But it is also a pocketful source of wealth, if your interest is lobbying and corruption. The politics in the Philippines is gross, multi-faceted, fanaticism, patronage, troupe of clowns, religiously influenced and venal system. Qualifications are overbearing but donwright ineffectual. Experience is a must but morally tainted. A century-old system that should be abolished. This new breed of officials should initiate the change in accordance with this current government’s mandate of a corruption-free, competitive economy and a progressive country. Regardless of color and political affinity, we should aim for unity, and not a division. Pray for the welfare of our country and its leaders. Be a productive citizen of this state!

The Boy Who Never Had a Mom

Margaret Berg Art (Pinterest)

Today is a special day for mothers around the world. Flowers, gifts and social media greetings everywhere. Of course, it will not be special if I didn’t post my personal greeting to the special woman, the mother of my daughter– Evelyn.

See also: The Love of a Father

I also knew for a fact that some of my readers are aware in my personal relationship. Well, for some who don’t, let me tell you a short description of my life. My mom left me and my sister when I was around one-year old. My aunt was the one who brought me to the province. She said that I was turning dark, sickly and I might die because of an illness. I don’t know the real reason and it might be unclear but the relationship of my parents wasn’t in good terms at that time.

My mom can’t manage to take care of us. My grandmother , back when she was still alive told me that when I was brought at the hospital, she told my grandma that she needs to go to her mother in the province but she’ll be back. So, she left me and my sister in my grandmother’s care. After that, I never saw nor heard from her ever again.

When I was growing up, I was forced to depend on myself. I learned to lean on no one. I don’t know how to express it but in all honesty, I never looked for her. In the same way, I never felt any anger or hatred against her. Of course, there was once a longing. There was once a pain of not seeing her, but that’s just it. I grew accustomed of having no mother. I learned the art of not giving a f*ck towards her. I learned to not show any emotion.

Every mother’s day, I write a letter to my grandma or my aunts. Well, whenever I have a mother’s day project in school, that is. It was a cycle. I don’t know why my mom doesn’t want to look for us. Or even just an attempt to do so back then. That is, if she is still alive somewhere out there.

There will always be a longing. There will always be a void in my identity, my being that only my mom can fill. I don’t know how it feels to have a mother. I am glad that my daughter never experienced it. I don’t know if she is still alive. I don’t know if she is looking for us. I don’t know if that might come, to see her personally. I will never know what was she thinking back then. What was her reasons for leaving me behind. I don’t know if there will ever come a time that we will cross paths. I don’t know if I want to see her. I don’t know if I love her. I don’t know if aborting me is much better than leaving me behind. Those are the many “I don’ts” that I have in my life, that I might never know the answers.

Mothers, love your children. Let them understand what you are feeling. Let them feel that they are loved. Don’t let them suffer the consequence of your decisions. They never wanted it, they don’t deserve it.

Happy Mother’s Day to all! Thank you for the life you had given us- your children.

I haven’t been in beaches lately. The Holy Week had finished and that was one of the busiest week for beach resort owners. Aside from, of course summer that ranges from the month of March to the late May, Holy Week has been established as a vacation week for Filipinos. It is the only week of the entire calendar year where one can book a flight or go to beaches and resorts, relax and meditate for all the good things that happened in your life.

The greyish-white fine sands of La Union

The Philippines had been known to be one of the religious countries in the world. A country with a majority of Catholic faith devotees, with a percentage of non-denominational Christians and Muslims. Some provinces in the Philippines had been very serious in celebrating Holy Week. It is a sacrament that was done with repentance by the Catholic devotees. For them, it was their expression of their love and faith of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. To name a few, Pampanga had been known to adhere in a penitential discipline during that important week.

They imitate the important event in Jesus’ life from the day he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot, to the moment he was held captive by the Romans and handed him to Pilate. To flogging Jesus to death, struck him on the head with staff and spit on him, mocked him and took his clothes, let him wore a twisted crown of thorns. To forcing him of carrying the cross to Golgotha, crucifying him together with the two rebels. To his rising overcoming death in the third day taking up all the sin and shame to save the world from God’s wrath and then ascending into heaven. Manila is also keen on celebrating this religious week at Quiapo Church, not only during the feast of the Black Nazarene. And pilgrimages located in Pangasinan, Rizal and Cebu.

Devotees had been practicing this life-changing event during the Holy Week. They would go to serene and secluded places to meditate and remember the death and victory of Jesus Christ on the cross. For some, Holy Week has been a short getaway amidst the busy schedules and the tiring work of the entire year. It is the only time they can relax, unwind and refresh their spirit. Beaches and resorts had been the get-go of some of the busy workaholics to relax, free from stress and toxic environment of the metro and I was given a chance to explore one of the great beaches in the North. It was a surfing destination for the surfing enthusiasts, Urbiztondo Beach located at San Juan, La Union hours drive to the famous Pagudpud.

Beach Overview

First, let me clarify that this was all coincidental. I wasn’t actually planning of going to the Urbiztondo beach. I came to La Union for an important errand, but due to a circumstance, I need to wait for how many hours to fulfill that errand. Since I got the opportunity of going to La Union (my first time after decades) and I passed by the long beaches along my way, I decided to go to a nearby beach to consume that hell of waiting. There was only one shopping mall in San Fernando and there wasn’t any space available where I can sit and wait for the hours. So what I did was, I asked a local for a nearby beach. I was lucky enough that there was a  nearby beach, and it only takes a 15-minute drive away from the shopping mall.

Urbiztondo Beach, San Juan, La Union

From the CSI Shopping Mall, you can ask a local for a drive using a tricycle for a hefty P100 – P150 fare to the seaside. It was quite expensive for a local tourist like me. But do not worry, there is a jeepney ride to the beach, you only need to walk from the shopping mall to the intersection and wait for any jeepney that passes by. You will only have to pay P10 fare. The route was something like Diretso/Bacnotan/San Fernando, both to and fro I guess. It was kind of disappointment when I learned that it only takes P10 jeepney fare compared to the hundred pesos fare on tricycle. Take note though, I support the local tourism and the locals so just take my word lightly when I said disappointment, (hahaha). It was a long beach so you can stop anywhere from the entire stretch of the beach. The drivers are kind enough to inform you that.

Reminder for the tourists

Even before reaching the place, you could feel the cold breeze that was blown from the sea. There are many establishments and hotels along the long stretch of the beach. And there are other establishments that are currently under construction. You could feel the booming business district and the busyness of the area. One local told me that I was lucky that I went there post-Holy Week because the beach was crowded during that event. Along the beach, you could find casual dining restos everywhere you look, outdoor bars on the outskirts before stepping your feet on the greyish-like sands and surf board rentals. There were also booth of henna tattoo artist, and little souvenir shops. One thing that distracted me though was seeing the warning signages like beware of jellyfish stings and do not swim at a certain distance.

Beware of Jellyfish

I came there wearing my topsider shoes and believe me, I could feel the intense heat entering inside the sole of my shoes unto my feet. As if I could almost feel I was walking barefoot. Guys, you need to always carry with you sunblocks especially it was dry and hotter these days. I could almost drink a gallon of water just by walking on the sand alone due to the intense heat of the summer. While walking along the shoreline, there were rocky old formations of corals formed near the sea, I went there with my shoes on. I had to, because I didn’t bring with me any slippers since going there wasn’t my initial intention. It wasn’t as soft as I am expecting, because I really thought that my feet might sink into the corally ground. It was tough, maybe because it was hardened overtime.

Rocky old coral formations along the shore

The sea looks color blue, the fine sands looks greyish-white compared to the other white sand beaches or the dark-greyish sands I am accustomed to. When I saw the surfing board rentals the moment I arrived, I was expecting a decent wave of waters and surfers riding on it. But what I saw was a calm sea with neither surfers nor any outdoor activities present. I couldn’t also see any cruise ships and tanker ships from afar. And I haven’t encountered any swimmers that was stung by the jellyfish. Anyway, that was just meh! I am not a surfing dude so it wasn’t a big deal for me. In addition, it wasn’t dubbed as The Surfing Capital of the North for nothing, right? Maybe my timing wasn’t perfect, (hahaha).

That was the 2-hour escapade of my life that day. Surely, I would love to return there to really experience what the Urbiztondo Beach could offer, especially during the night. It was a short, quick tour but it was refreshing. It maybe wasn’t intentional and it wasn’t something like a meditative vacation, but I am glad that I went there. I just want to quote a famous saying that I often hear:

Unplanned vacations are better than the planned ones.

And yes, I experienced it that day.

2 A.M Thoughts: The Rain

It’s passed 2 a.m. It is raining while I am doing this. I feel like writing my 2 am thoughts at this moment. I like rain actually, but only to an extent. Some people call it as pluviophile (lover of rain; someone who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days). However you define it, rain calms my soul and my consciousness. I don’t know if it feels bothersome for the others, but I do feel at peace. I find it relaxing, especially while sipping a cup of coffee beside my bed. Back in my younger days, you would find me reading a book, or bathing out in the rain, if I’m not sleeping. Up until now, I also don’t know the scientific explanation on why during raining or rainy days in general, our memory lane is triggered. Somehow, the rain makes a person sentimental in a way. It is one of those rare occasions where it makes us think deeply about life – our life.

Just to give you a quick little information, rain is a liquid water in the form of droplets that have condensed from atmospheric water vapor and then become heavy enough to fall under gravity. That is according to Mr. Wikipedia. Well, I can’t barely remember my stock knowledge nor what my teacher told me about the scientific definition of the rain in my Science subject.

I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
Maya Angelou

I’ve read and heard a lot of old sayings, interpretations, and passages about the rain. Now that I think about it, let me share to you some of my thoughts about the rain. - shop now!

Literally, rain is pretty troublesome for drivers. The wet pavement makes it difficult for drivers, and accidental- prone to some areas. That is why you could see warning signages along the highways. That is why drivers are adviced to be cautious and to drive carefully especially in slippery slopes and blind curves. Anyhow, most of the tires are specifically designed for any road conditions like rain.

Back when I was in my primary and middle school, I felt bothered whenever there is rain. And what really annoys me even more is when I forgot to bring with me umbrella, rain coat and boots. Have you tried soaking wet when you arrived home? Have you tried your feet smells stinky when you remove your socks because the water went inside your shoes? Or say, you have to air dry your notes and books because it gotten wet and its pages were piled together? One wrong pull of a sheet and it will tear all the pages together. That was bothersome at that age. You have to spend hours to blot out the water using paper towels or a cloth. What makes it more troublesome is when you have a homework. Either you have to patiently air dry your notes and later do your assignment, or don’t do it at all. Hahaha

Rain falls because the clouds can no longer handle the weight. Tears fall because the heart can not longer handle the pain.

Scientifically, storm starts from rain, gust and the air pressure within the clouds. There will never be storm if there is no rain. They go hand in hand, and inseparable. Typhoons are formed and it does extreme damages. Although my country experiences regular typhoons at signal 3 or 4, still, it’s always hard to cope up from the after effect like flooding and the devastation it caused. Whenever I watches the weather news, I could frequently hear monsoons from the weather reporter, even in summer.

Metaphorically, storms represents the troubles, pains and the present sufferings in our lives. It is an event in our life, that made a tremendous effect, like a turning point that greatly affected us. During the time of Noah in the book of Genesis, Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. So, the Lord called him to make an ark. In Genesis 6:7, “The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” So when Noah created what God commanded him to make, God sent a heavy rain (Gen. 7:4;12) and flooded the Earth, wiping the evilness and wickedness of the human race.

God sends rain and floods to teach us a lesson. He wants us to test our faith to him. Just like how the problems will come; just like how the rain will pour; and just like how God sent rain to Noah. There is a designated time that God will let it stop. God will take away that trouble, pain and sufferings. It is because of the storms in our lives that our faith is strengthened. It is during the storms in our lives that we can determine the people who can be trusted and relied on. It is during the storms that God will test our patience, our obedience and our faith. It is after the storms that we grow in our faith.

I have lived pain, and my life can tell: I only deepen the wound of the world when I neglect to give thanks the heavy perfume of wild roses in early July and the song of crickets on summer humid nights and the rivers that run and the stars that rise and the rain that falls and all the good things that a good God gives.
Ann Voskamp

When I was in my younger years, I could hear my teacher and my classmates saying that our mother nature is weeping that’s why it is raining. It was believable at that age. Adding the children shows that I watched back then. It warned people of their illegal environmental activities, and exploitation of the nature. That is why the mother nature fights back by means of heavy rains, floods, earthquakes and other natural calamities.

This is the most profound meaning of the rain. Literally, it is a blessing for the farmers that were hit by El Niño, La Niña and other drought-like phenomenon. It is a blessing to the trees and the nature as God showers his creations. It balances the cycle of life.

In Acts 14: 17, “Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” Just as how God sends storms in our lives, he also sends rain to bless us and end our pain and suffering. Just as how God send rain to a barren land and transform it into a fruitful land. So, if you are maybe in the midst of your barrenness, keep on praying and wait for God to send rain.

I remember when our elementary
teacher asked us to bring plants as a project. Back then, he will share how important the rain is to a plant. In order for the plant to flourish and grow, it needs an ample amount of rain showers or water.

In Isaiah 45: 8, “You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it.” And in Isaiah 55: 10, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater”. God sent rain to flourish the seeds. We are the seeds. God wants to prosper us and grow in our faith.

Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots.
Frank A. Clark

Time checked, 5:30 a.m, I could hear the roosters crowing. By this time, the rain had subsided. The pluviophile in me had receded. It was a blessing, another blessing for a new day.

Don’t Become Who Hurt You

This is simple yet profound that when taken by heart it has a deep meaning within its context. Sometimes we don’t know that a part of us that was hurt can leave a scar that cannot easily mend by time, or even death. Sometimes, the person that hurts us leave an impression that is forever delisted in our system, if not forever be forgotten in our life.

See also: You Are Never Worthless

I remember when I was young. The person who hurt me left my childhood a sad, immeasurable pain, and left me growing with a vengeful heart. I am so drowned of avenging myself because that part of me was the beginning of a mess I paid by my entire childhood. That part of me was helpless. A voiceless kid who just followed orders and what those adults made me believed. I didn’t feel an ounce of guilt or conscience because what I was feeling back then was a total remorse and loathe. I hated him to the point that I cursed him. To the point I no longer feel any love or sympathy. To the point I wished he was dead. I blamed him for all my childhood sufferings, for the brokenness I feel, and the family I will never have. I went through it a lot physically, intellectually and emotionally. To the point that I feel like I don’t deserve this life – everything!

I did everything I could not to be like him; not to grow as an incompetent adult; not to grow as a worthless husband or a useless dad. I plunged myself away, so far away, dwindling in shame and shutting all my emotions and keep it all by myself.

It is normal for anyone to blame others. Humans are created selfish and full of pride. Humans find fault in everything; humans aren’t easily contented in what they have, and I’m no better than anyone.

Later did I realized, that the person I never wanted to be – the person I hated, and rejected, is becoming the person in me. The things I hated about him, is suddenly imparted in my system. I only realized when I found myself acting like a fool, when my actions and my indecisiveness are becoming prevalent to the extent that it is manifesting on me. I hated myself for it, just as how I hated the person who made me feel it.

I didn’t undergo any therapy or counseling. The guilt, the anger and frustrations is piling up. It’s eating me whole inside. A part of me – the helpless me, is trying to suppress it as much as it can. It was hard. There are times I feel like I will undergo cardiac arrest anytime because of the sudden burst of pain in my heart. It doesn’t always occur, but once it does, it’s unbearable and I feel like I can’t breathe. It’s never good to keep it all inside especially when you have a weak heart.

It is when we hurt that we learn.
– Steve Maraboli

DON’T BECOME WHO HURT YOU. Don’t let your hurt and pain define you; don’t let it feed your ego; don’t let the good in you be consumed by it; don’t let it become who you are – learn to forgive; forgiveness is the key. I know it isn’t easy. It isn’t something that could easily erase everything, every memory and hurt. Forgive sincerely, at least try it little by little. It’s a long process of healing, but it produces great result – a fulfilling result.

When I think about it, I realized that it’s possible. It’s possible to forgive. It’s possible to feel positive despite the negativities and despite there has been no changes in his part. So, if you were given a chance, confront that person who hurt you and made you feel it. I know it was wrong for keeping it all inside me. I know fully that it has a negative effect in my personality, in my upbringing but I was always like that – stubborn. I suffered from it. And I don’t want you to feel it, that same feeling. It was never good. It robbed me my happiness in my childhood. It robbed me the love I should have given. It robbed me of the future I should have had, if only I didn’t allowed that hurt to ate my whole being.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Lastly, have faith. Give all your hurt and pains to our father in heaven.

The Beauty in the Far Province

I have never been in many places in the Philippines. I only saw limited places across the region. But, I must say that even in these limited places, as long as you have an optimistic perception of everything, you could see beauty in it. There is always beauty in everything, if you will learn to appreciate even the smallest detail.

Beauty of far provinces

I consider myself as a traveler, regardless if I can count on my fingers the countries and the provinces I traveled. Being a traveler, doesn’t define if you had conquered the world. Although I admit that every traveler dreamt of traveling the world, I for one, is just enjoying the perks of my work. I get to see places new to me. I get to enjoy the panoramic scenes laid before my eyes that not everyone have the opportunity to do so.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. – Lao Tzu

Nature is really a beauty on its own. God had crafted in his hands many wonders, creatures and natural occurences that no human can create. God crafted mountains and volcanoes; he crafted the briliance of the blue sea; or the fluffy white clouds. He crafted the pleasantness of the lush greeneries. The falling of the water in falls and streams. All of these are wonders one cannot fathom.

Being one with nature, you get to feel that somehow you are in a different dimension. Nature enthusiast, dendrophilia, and nemophilist are all synonymous to the love of nature, trees and forest. Although, not everyone has that fondness in nature, but being a traveler, it is an innate feeling inside you.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. – Marcel Proust

One of the benefit of a traveler, is to enjoy the gift of God- the nature. So, even when you are in the deep woods, in the middle of the ocean, beneath the altitude, at the top of the mountain, diving in the vast sea, in your hometown, in the far rural areas or countrysides or even in a small garden, you just have to enjoy the view and be thankful of life because you get to see all of these things. If you can’t yet afford traveling to Maldives, in Machu Picchu, in the forest of Congo and Amazon, in Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, in the African Safari, in the Himalayan Alps, depths of Grand Canyon, in the night sky of Norway and the Blue Lagoon of Iceland, make it your priority in your bucketlist and spare a portion of your money for it.
